You’ve been thinking about it for some time: you want to veganize your wardrobe… but how to get started? Or perhaps you’re already in the process of making your wardrobe vegan-proof, and you’re looking for some styling tips. We’ve got you covered!
Styling Your Vegan Wardrobe
When you think vegan, you will think about the food you’re putting into your body. But did you also think about what you put on your body? Your wardrobe might not be the first thing you think about, but the fashion industry – just like the food industry – is very cruel to animals and exploits them to make a profit.
Perhaps you’re not vegan, but you want a more sustainable or cruelty-free wardrobe. In both these cases getting started can be difficult, and it sure has a learning curve before you have it all down. It might take some time, but in the end, you’ll be happy to have taken the step, and you’ll have a cruelty- and guilt-free wardrobe to be proud of! Help yourself out with our favorite tips to make your wardrobe vegan-proof.
Go for Timeless Classics
The fast-fashion industry loves to bring out countless collections every year and to constantly bring new trends in fashion. And that’s for a reason: they want to make a profit. This causes a fashion industry with mass production that is so intense that it takes a toll on the environment. Not to mention animal and human rights, because the fast-fashion industry will sacrifice those for the money in your pocket.
But why do we do this? Constantly buying clothes and going along with trends is not only wasteful, but it’s also bad for the environment, animals, and humans alike. Plus… it’s also not great for your wallet. Imagine what you could do with the money you would save if you would just buy less clothing. We recommend going for some timeless basics, and combining them with some fun items (vegan-friendly of course)! Here are some of our favorite classics that you can combine with our boots:
Little Black Dress
The classic to end all classics: the little black dress never went out of style. It doesn’t have to be ‘’little’’ by the way: you can choose a hemline that you feel comfortable in.
Jeans
We love jeans! They’re comfortable and have many different styles, from washed out and baggy to clean and skinny. Jeans are just one of those items you can wear in nearly any situation, from a night out to a day in the office.
Black Blazer
A black blazer has also been around for decades, and this is probably because it’s practical and easy to combine into a stylish outfit.
Basic Cardigans
Cardigans are another one of those items you can wear on any occasion, and that just works with nearly any piece of clothing. There’s a cardigan for any season, situation, or outfit you can think of.
A White Shirt Dress
For any working girl, or just to chique up your outfit: get a white shirt dress!
Denim Jacket
Denim jackets are the item if you want to ‘’spice’’ up your wardrobe, or want to go for a bit more of a bohemian style. We personally love them because they just are a match made in heaven with any of our boots.
Explore What Style Suits You – Outside of Fast-Fashion Trends
While we’re on the topic of trends, do you know what your real style is? What do you feel comfortable in, and what clothing makes you feel like a million bucks? Maybe you haven’t thought about it yet, and that’s not crazy… we’re being bombarded with fashion commercials and collections that tell us all about the latest trend we need in our lives. But you don’t need that! Try and explore what style suits you, what makes you feel and look best, and you will be less tempted to go along with the trends. And this will also make the transition to a more sustainable wardrobe way easier.
Marie-Kondo Your Wardrobe
Marie Kondo is a Japanese cleaning-guru and TV host who famously says to look at your items and wonder ‘’does this still spark joy’’? It’s a good idea to take a look at your wardrobe and think about what you want to keep, and what you don’t want anymore. It’s also a great tip for decluttering your house. And what to do with what you don’t want anymore? You can give it away to friends, to charity, or sell it on a thrift marketplace like Vinted. That way your old clothes can make someone else happy again.
Replace Your Clothing Items Slowly
The process of going vegan can be hard, and that also counts for your wardrobe. Don’t feel bad when it takes a little longer than you thought. Sometimes it can be hard to say goodbye to certain items, so take the time you need.
Research New Brands
Researching vegan brands is key, especially when you want a vegan wardrobe that fits your personal style. There is a lot of information to be found online, and when you want to find brands to fit your cool new vegan boots, you can research on websites such as Immaculate Vegan (one of our favorites!).
Go Thrifting!
Thrifting is fun, and a trend that’s really making a comeback! Thrift shopping is as fun as treasure hunting: you never know what you get. And giving old clothing a new life is a great way to battle the fast-fashion industry.
Cruelty-free is the newest trend in fashion, and it’s there to stay for a long time! And with our vegan boots ‘’Walking on Plants’’ never looked (and felt) so good. Will you join us in our mission?
